Testimonials"This brand new cafe-bar-restaurant boasts a terrific pedigree. It’s from the same stable as reliable Glasgow city centre success stories Gamba (a former Hot Plate winner) and Urban Brasserie (one of my all-time favourite haunts)."

“One visit and it's my new favourite restaurant in Glasgow”

Balthassar, where have you been all my life? The oysters were a little taste of heaven, the thyme infused spicy dressing a revelation. The surprise on my friend, the oyster virgin's face and then her delight at trying them was wonderful. The steak burger was a handmade, tasty, proper burger, the same size as the bun (hate it when the bun is twice the size of the burger), the huge bowl of tasty chips well...tasty....and the bread, olive oil, wine, macchiato all very nice indeed. Add a few gin and tonics and it's hard to believe the bill was only around £60. The service is good: simple yet experienced. It was a quiet evening but because of the booth we were in, the atmosphere was fine. I'd gighly recommend it to everyone.

“A Parisian brasserie in the centre of Glasgow.”
Reviewed 16 May 2011Was pleasantly surprised to thoroughly enjoy my recent experience of dining for the first time at Balthassar, having tried various disappointing incarnations of "French" restaurants in Glasgow in the past.

My starter of herring and potato salad and main course of confit of duck with puy lentils was as good as any I have eaten in France. For the less adventurous, their beef burger was possibly the best I have had in Glasgow.
The setting is stylish yet relaxed and the waiting staff were friendly, attentive and efficient.
The fixed price menu is great value.
